Sweet, Sweet Mobile: Ghirardelli Launches Digby iPhone App

Ever get a craving for chocolate while you’re far from any retail establishment? Well, you won’t be able to order the sweet goodness and have it sent to your mouth instantly, but chocolate-maker Ghirardelli is looking to cash in on your on-the-go chocolate craving with its new iPhone app.

The San Francisco-based chocolate manufacterer and marketer believes that the rise in smartphone adoption will help mobile sales in their new mobile storefront. They teamed up with Digby Mobile Commerce to create an iPhone app to sell their high-calorie goods.

“The way our customers shop with us is changing,” said Yvo Smit, VP of Restaurant and Retail with Chirardelli, in a statement. Gartner recently reported that, in Q2 2009, smartphone sales surpassed 40 million units worldwide, a 27 percent increase over Q2 2008.

Digby’s Mobile Commerce Suite is a software-as-a-service platform that makes it easy for retailers to extend their current e-Commerce infastructure to the mobile channel. Some of Digby’s partners include Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, drugstore.com, Godiva, Sears, Target, and 1-800-Flowers.
