Buzzd Launches Real-Time iPhone City Guide

Real-time local information is powering the next wave of mobile apps, giving mobile advertisers the opportunity to target potential customers in the moment. Today, following app success on BlackBerry devices, real-time social city guide for mobile buzzed launched its free app for Apple’s iPhone and iTouch.

The buzzd app aggregates activity from Twitter, buzzd, and other real-time sources to tell you what’s cool and nearby at any given moment at “1.5 million venues across the US and Canada.” They call the real-time what’s-cool-and-nearby feature a “buzzmeter.” Sort by level of buzz or distance from your location, or search for a particular place in your city, like a music venue or Indian restaurant. Given users are searching for something nearby, this is a perfect opportunity to take advantage of mobile marketing’s not-so-secret weapon — real-time targeting.

“Our innovative technology platform provides unprecedented context and relevance to the thousands of real-time updates posted every second,” said buzzd CEO and Co-founder Nihal Mehta in a statement.

Getting local information to users is nothing new for mobile devices, but adding real-time info to the mix changes things up a bit. Yelp and Metromix have local apps that display quality ratings and recommendations for local, but don’t yet have the ability to show what’s hot at any given moment across the interwebs and mobile networks.
